Crochet Pricing Calculator: the true cost of what you make

Price crochet and knitting on what they really cost: a little yarn and a LOT of your time. The hours are the price.

Crochet is the craft that loses the most money to unpaid time. A blanket is 20-40 hours; an amigurumi is several. The yarn is a few dollars, but the hours are the product. Anvil HUD prices a make the honest way: the yarn you used (from the skein price per gram), the notions, and the minutes your hands were on it, paid at a real rate. The hook is overhead, so there's no machine to bill. Not sure how much yarn a project needs? The built-in yarn calculator turns grams-needed into skeins-to-buy and a cost.

How we price crochet & knitting

  • Yarn (by the gram, from the skein price) + notions + your hands-on hours make the raw cost. The hook is overhead, so there's no machine line.
  • A failure buffer and overhead load it; your fees and target margin set the list price.
  • No file to drop: pick your yarn, enter the grams and the hours, and the breakdown is yours. The yarn calculator works out the skeins to buy.

Every line is published at the math. No black box. The engine is free; you only sign in to save your work.

Questions

How do I price crochet items to actually make money?

Add up the yarn you used, the notions, and your hands-on time at a real hourly wage, then load a failure buffer and overhead and divide by one minus your fees and target margin. The #1 mistake is pricing at 'yarn plus a few dollars' and giving your hours away. Anvil HUD does the math and publishes the formula at /the-math.
