Candle Making

Candle Pricing Calculator: the true cost of your candles

Price a candle on what it actually costs: the wax, the fragrance, the jar, and your time. No machine to meter, just the materials and the work.

Candle pricing looks simple and then quietly loses you money: the wax and fragrance are cheap per candle but add up, the jar is often the biggest line, and the warning labels, wicks, and your time disappear if you don't count them. Anvil HUD prices a candle the honest way: the wax you poured, the fragrance at your load percent, the vessel, the wick and dye, and the minutes your hands were on it. Melting is passive, so there's no machine time to bill. Not sure how much wax a jar needs? The built-in wax calculator works it out from the vessel size and your fragrance load.

How we price candle making

  • Wax (by the gram) + fragrance (a load percent of the wax) + the vessel + dye, wick, and your hands-on time make the raw cost.
  • A failure buffer and overhead load it; your fees and target margin set the list price.
  • No file to drop: pick your wax and vessel, set the fragrance load, and the breakdown is yours. The wax calculator sizes the pour for you.

Every line is published at the math. No black box. The engine is free; you only sign in to save your work.

Questions

How do I price handmade candles?

Add up the wax you poured, the fragrance at your load percent, the vessel, the wick and dye, and your hands-on time, then load a failure buffer and overhead and divide by one minus your fees and target margin. The vessel is sold with the candle, so it's counted at full cost, not amortized. Anvil HUD does the math and publishes the formula at /the-math.

How much wax does my jar need?

Use the built-in wax calculator: enter your vessel's wax capacity and a fragrance load percent and it works out the wax and fragrance you need (per candle and per batch) and what they cost, then sends the per-candle wax into the estimate. It runs in your browser and it's free.

Is the calculator free?
