Vinyl Pricing Calculator: the true cost of decals and HTV
Price a decal or an HTV shirt on what it actually costs: the vinyl by area, the transfer tape, the blank it's pressed onto, and your time. The cutter is cheap, so there's no machine time to bill.
Vinyl looks cheap per piece and quietly loses you money: the vinyl and transfer tape are pennies, but the blank tee is often the biggest cost, and the weeding, pressing, and packing time disappears if you don't count it. Anvil HUD prices a decal or an HTV item the honest way: the vinyl by the square inch, transfer tape on decals, the blank it's pressed onto, and the minutes your hands were on it. The cutter is cheap, low-power, and fast, so it's overhead, not a machine-time line. Not sure how much a run needs? The built-in yield calculator works out the vinyl, tape, and how many designs you get from a roll.
How we price vinyl cutting
- Vinyl is by area (your design's width x height x quantity) at your price per square inch; decals add transfer tape, a cheap derived line.
- The blank (the tee, mug, or tumbler an HTV design presses onto) is full-cost material sold with the item; a sticker or wall decal has none.
- No file to drop: enter the finished size, pick your vinyl, and the breakdown is yours. The yield calculator works out how much a run needs.
Every line is published at the math. No black box. The engine is free; you only sign in to save your work.

Questions
How do I price vinyl decals and HTV shirts?▾
Add up the vinyl (by area), transfer tape (for decals), the blank (for HTV), and your hands-on time, then load a failure buffer and overhead and divide by one minus your fees and target margin. The cutter is overhead, not a per-item machine cost, and the blank is counted at full cost because it ships with the item. Anvil HUD does the math and publishes the formula at /the-math.
